About the Event
New York a hit for 50p Life Change Appeal

Distilling malt, music and fashion at one of New York’s most stylish venues, The Parlour Midtown in April, our inaugural Scotland Unfiltered fundraising event on 12 April 2012 proved a great success with over 150 New Yorkers, personalities and Scots attending on the night.
Scotland Unfiltered raised $20,000 for Developing World Health’s Life Change Appeal and was attended by the Scottish Parliamentary delegation, Scottish Government, the Charity’s ambassador and renowned Hollywood actor Brian Cox as well as four-time Emmy winner and ITV’s Daybreak presenter, Ross King who hosted a live auction on the night. Howie Nicholsby, renowned kilt maker and founder of 21st Century Kilts unveiled a stunning collection of bespoke Harris Tweed kilt-wear, all based on a specially designed charity tweed.
With prizes ranging from a week’s accommodation in a 250 year old Highland croft going for nearly $2500 and $700 for a 25 year old bottle of Macallan Single Malt Scotch Whisky to $2000 for a one off life size tweed stags head – created especially for the event - the funds raised will treat 17,000 children in the developing world against the seven most prevalent Neglected Tropical Diseases.
Commenting on the night, Ross King said: “What a great night all round, not only did we celebrate Scotland in style with a superb party but we raised a fantastic amount of money for a worthy cause.”
Dr Stuart Smith, founder of Developing World Health, added: “We couldn’t have asked for a better event, it was our first Scotland Unfiltered fundraiser and we’d like to thank everyone who supported us on the night. Neglected Tropical Diseases affect the most vulnerable of society, those who can’t afford the treatments. For 50pence, under a dollar, we can treat a child for a year so the money raised will make a real difference on the ground in Africa.”
Scotland Unfiltered is set to return to New York’s Tartan Week in April 2013. Look out for details on another exciting event in Los Angeles next Summer.
The Charity Developing World Health
It's estimated that a sixth of the world's population is affected by preventable neglected tropical diseases with 600,000 people, mostly schoolchildren, dying as a result. These diseases are entirely preventable and treatable and for only 50 pence, under a dollar, Developing World Health can treat a child for up to a year against them through its Life Change Appeal.
